World Oceans Day 2019

Thanks to the Government of Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆfor proposing the concept of a World Oceans Day waaaay back in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, we now officially celebrate it on 8th June every year ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป!

Why Celebrate?

To remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life ๐Ÿ™‚!

The scientific bit? They are the lungs of our planet ๐ŸŒŽ, providing over 50% of the oxygen we breathe ๐Ÿ’จand absorbing 50 times more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere ๐ŸŒŠ.

Covering 70% of the Earth's surface, the ocean transports heat from the equator to the poles, regulating our climate and weather patterns ๐ŸŒง.

โ€ฆand if thatโ€™s not enough, they are a major source of food, medicines and jobs.

There are thousands of events in over 120 countries, here are some that Island Glitter HQ are heading to ๐Ÿ‘ญ!

Soho Music Presents World Ocean Day

Think bean bags, photo booths ๐Ÿ“ธ, ice lollies ๐Ÿฆand live music ๐ŸŽถ!
