World Oceans Day 2019
Thanks to the Government of Canada 🇨🇦for proposing the concept of a World Oceans Day waaaay back in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, we now officially celebrate it on 8th June every year 🙌🏻!
To remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life 🙂!
The scientific bit? They are the lungs of our planet 🌎, providing over 50% of the oxygen we breathe 💨and absorbing 50 times more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere 🌊.
Covering 70% of the Earth's surface, the ocean transports heat from the equator to the poles, regulating our climate and weather patterns 🌧.
…and if that’s not enough, they are a major source of food, medicines and jobs.
There are thousands of events in over 120 countries, here are some that Island Glitter HQ are heading to 👭!
